    Parents, teachers, institutional representatives all gathered in Harlem’s cozy neighborhood pizzeria Sottocasa to celebrate the progress of Manhattan’s first dual language Italian program at the local PS 242. Together they discussed the benefits of bilingualism, shared their experiences and planned for the future of the program.

    Harlem's Giglio Feast: Raising a Five-Ton Tower

    Do you know about the Dance of the Giglio in Harlem? If not, this is an event you won’t want to miss. Head to East Harlem on Sunday, August 13 to watch as men and women hoist a 75-foot tower, weighing several tons, into the air and carry it on their backs! This annual festival honors Saint Anthony of Padua and is organized by the Giglio Society of East Harlem, a religious and cultural organization of Catholics of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Shrine Church. If you're looking to see a giglio right away, Our Lady of Mount Williamsburg is currently lifting their own for their 130th annual feast. But hurry! The last day is July 16th.

    The Audubon Mural Project: A Creative Refuge for Endangered Birds

    The streets of Harlem and Washington Heights come to life thanks to an ambitious public art project, the Audubon Mural Project, a collaboration between the Audubon Society and gallerist Elliot Avi Gitler. The project involves artists from the neighborhood as well as from all over the world, including a few Italians and Italian Americans, like Iena Cruz, Gaia and Hitnes.
