The genius of the Italian Neoclassical sculptor finds a new renaissance in the US thanks to the cooperation of three exceptional New York City institutions. On the occasion of the unveiling of a full-size plaster copy of the original sculptor of George Washington displayed at the Frick Collection, the Italian Cultural Institute is showing a rare collection of Canova’s tempera paintings capturing mythical dancing figures. At the same time, the Consulate General of Italy hosts the photographic exhibition, "Antonio Canova," by Fabio Zonta.

Gruppo Italiano (GI), kicked off the first leg of the series at NYU Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò. The talk, Biodiversity and the Role of the Italian Food Industry in the World, featured exceptional speakers such as owner of Il Gattopardo Group and Founder and President of GI, Gianfranco Sorrentino; Maurizio Forte, Director of the Italian Trade Commission in New York, Stefano Cordova, Innovation Chef at Bindi North America; Carolyn Dimitri, PhD, Director Food Study Program at N.Y.U., Lisa Sasson, Dietetic Internship Director at Food Study Program at N.Y.U. and Lorenzo Zurino, Founder and CEO of The One Company. The event was moderated by journalists Andrea Fiano and Vincenzo Pascale.

Every year the New York City Marathon is an exciting event for more than just New Yorkers. This year’s marathon, held on Sunday November 5th, brought people together from around the world. Honoring Italian runners specifically–3,002 this year #lacaricadei3002–The Consulate General of Italy held a press conference before the marathon on November 2nd for those participating in the 2017 race.

At the Consulate General of Italy, homage was paid to the fallen victims of the attacks on the Twin Towers. It was also an occasion to remember the Italians whose lives were lost during that tragic event. The Consulate hosted representatives from New York’s Italian community and an institutional delegation from the city of Brescia, who remembered the attack on Piazza della Loggia 43 years ago.

Italian institutions celebrate June 2nd and italianità. An entire day filled with the best in Italian food, classic and contemporary art, and jazz. Community representatives inaugurated the design of the Consulate General of Italy’s new waiting room. Also noteworthy was the presence of Italian Ambassador Armando Varricchio, who presented awards to Frank Bisignano and Jhumpa Lahiri .
