  • The tour will visit Italy’s Lombardia region, NIAF’s 2015 Region of Honor, from June 9 to June 23, 2015. “This signature program at the National Italian American Foundation gives these fortunate Italian American students an incredible opportunity to discover and immerse themselves in the land and beautiful culture of their ancestors,” said NIAF Director of Programs Gabriella Mileti. The 2015 trip itinerary will include a visit to Expo Milano 2015, educational lectures, service opportunities, meetings with government officials, business leaders and visits to government offices, international businesses, museums and other cultural attractions.
  • The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) has decided to create a new grant in order to support the ongoing “Save the Saint” restoration process, which aims to restore the Duomo of Milan and its 135 spires, including the one featuring Saint Francesca Cabrini, the first ever American citizen to be officially made a Saint by the Catholic Church. As a naturalized US citizen, the figure of Mother Cabrini is very significant to all Italian Americans.
  • The Kickoff celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) took place at Cipriani’s in New York. This year a new award was given out: the Mario Cuomo Award in community leadership and public service, received by Attorney General Janet Di Fiore. Present at the Gala were also various prominent Italian American figures, such as the current Governor Andrew Cuomo, NIAF president John Viola, actors Chazz Palminteri and Ralph Macchio, news anchor Ken Rosato, chairman of NIAF Joseph Raso, and many others. All had great input on many topics regarding Italian American culture, integration, discourse, as well as the connection with Italy, especially in view of Expo Milano.

Zarrelli, Charles Turano, four notable Italian Americans in the fields of finance, law, professional sports marketing and public policy have been elected to the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) Board of Directors for the 2015-2019 term during an April 9, 2015, meeting at the New York offices at Pepper Hamilton LLP.

Cuomo Award in Public Service will be presented for the first time by the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) at the legendary Cipriani 42nd Street during the Foundation’s New York Spring Gala on April 8, 2015.New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo is planning to attend the ceremony to honor his late father.
  • NIAF President John M. Viola, Vice Chairs Patricia de Stacy Harrison and Gabriel Battista, and the Foundation’s Government Relations and Public Policy Committee Chair Mark Valente lll, welcomed new and returning U.S. Representatives and Senators of the Italian American Congressional Delegation (IACD) of the 114th U.S. Congress at a special reception on Capitol Hill on March 18, 2015.
  • On Tuesday June 3rd, Mike Piazza, New York Mets player and 12-Time MLB All-Star, will light the Empire State Building with the colors of the Italian Flag to celebrate the mission and educational programs of The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF)
