Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, A fund for Italian victims: On Wednesday, April 8, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz was joined by members of the Italian-American community and elected officials to announce the creation of a fund to assist Italy earthquake victims and their families, as well as to express their solidarity with the people of Italy.
“The devastating news coming out of Italy hits us especially hard in Brooklyn, where our vibrant Italian-American community is mourning the souls lost in the earthquake and praying for the tens of thousands of residents left injured or homeless,” says BP Markowitz. “I am proud to say that Brooklynites have always responded to those in crisis around the globe by opening up their hearts and wallets, so I urge them—and all New Yorkers—to contribute to earthquake relief efforts in any way possible. NIAF, Abruzzo Relief Fund: The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) has established a special NIAF/Abruzzo Relief Fund to help the victims and their families who perished from the recent earthquake in the town of L’Aquila and other small towns in central Italy in the region of Abruzzo. Many members of the NIAF Board of Directors including Gabriel A. Battista, John F. Calvelli, Arthur J. Furia, Esq. and Anthony A. Marnell II trace their heritage to the region of Abruzzo. The ancestors of the Honorable Pat Tiberi of Ohio, who serves as co-chair of the Italian American Congressional Delegation of the 111th United States Congress, emigrated from the Abruzzo region to the United States.
Every dollar contributed will go directly to the victims.

Abruzzo Earthquake Benefit Concert: With organizing a Benefit Concert Italian singer Giada Valenti would like to use her talent to help the victims of the earthquake in Abruzzo Italy. She will perform Sunday May 3rd at 5 PM at the Little Theatre at St. John’s University in Queens, NY, her new show “Tribute To Love”. Giada also will donate 50% of the revenue of the sales of her new CD “And I Love You So” .
Because of her initiative of organizing this Benefit Concert she is approached by several other Italian American organizations to do events in Long Island, Connecticut and New Jersey.
Show charge is $20 for a regular ticket, and $35 for premium seating, which includes a reception following the performance.
The Abuzzo Earthquake Benefit Concert is organized together with the Italian Heritage & Culture Committee - NY, Inc. and the Italian Cultural Center of St. John's University Scholarship Program.
