The fifth Adventure in Italian Opera with Fred Plotkin of this season features Daniele Rustioni, a rising young conductor from Italy, who makes his Met debut leading Aïda in March 2017. He has already conducted at La Scala, the Royal Opera in London, in Florence, Pesaro, Bari, Munich, Washington and the Glimmerglass Festival, focusing on the master composers of the Italian repertoire.

Salvatore Settis is the Academy's Distinguished Visiting Fellow in connection with its International Observatory for Cultural Heritage. He is the former Director of the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles (1994–1999) and of the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa (1999–2010), where he also taught Classical Archaeology and Art History.
